Cognac Bertrand Heritage Limited Edition N°2 is an Hors d'Age 100% Petite Champagne, from the "Héritage" lot of Simone and Raymond Bertrand, the grandparents of Thérèse and Samuel, who today own the Domaine des Brissons de Laage. Simone and Raymond both grew up in the Petite Champagne region of Cognac, and learned the techniques of Cognac production separately within their families. Simone grew up at Domaine des Brissons, where her father introduced her to the subtleties of the trade, while Raymond's family has been established in Reaux since 1731, owning a windmill and vineyards on the Laage estate. So it was only natural that Simone and Raymond, who married in 1948, merged these two estates into one, giving birth to Domaine des Brissons de Laage.
During the first ten years of their partnership on the estate, the eaux-de-vie were distilled in small stills (8 hectolitres) heated over wood fires, which have now disappeared. Right from the start of their collaboration, they selected a particular batch of Petite Champagne, which they set aside in the 1960s for a long and special maturation in "red" barrels. This precious eau-de-vie has remained intact for over fifty years, proudly symbolizing the legacy of Simone and Raymond, passed on to their grandchildren, Thérèse and Samuel, the current guardians of the family heritage.
The "Héritage" batch has long been recognized by the family as an eau-de-vie of exceptional quality, the result of many years of patience and accumulated know-how. While the first bottling of this precious eau-de-vie took place in December 2018 under the name "500 Heritage Cognac", Bertrand Heritage Limited Edition N°2 Cognac constitutes the second edition of the same eau-de-vie, from the original batch, but with three additional years of ageing, making it even more exceptional than before.
