The Prince Hubert de Polignac Cognac is one of the two most important brands of Unicoop. The other is H. Mounier. It was the H. Mounier company (founded in 1858) that, in 1947, obtained the right to use the name Prince Hubert de Polignac from Hubert de Polignac, a descendant of an illustrious French aristocratic family. They purchased the family name and coat of arms. Mounier joined forces with Unicoop in 1960 (not in 1969 as some sources claim).
In 1959, the brand became the official supplier to the Royal Court of Denmark. They proudly displayed this by placing a small label around the neck with the statement “Fournisseur de la Cour de Sa Majesté le Roi de Danemark” (Supplier to the Court of His Majesty the King of Denmark).
In 1960, H. Mounier and Unicoop joined forces, making Prince Hubert de Polignac one of the two principal brands of Unicoop.
A very typical characteristic of the old Prince Hubert de Polignac bottles is their distinctive shape, like this one, which was used for quite some time. Grande Champagne and Fine Champagne cognacs were mostly used. Only lower-grade cognacs were blended with other crus.
The aging of the cognac in this bottle corresponds to a reserve between a VSOP and a Napoléon.
