The Damoisel bottle design was registered in 1968.
Founded in 1701 by Philippe Guillet in Cognac, the Rouyer Guillet brand, which once flourished with over 35 distilleries and 50 employees, became Rouyer Guillet in 1801 after Mr. Rouyer married a Guillet daughter.
The founder, Mr. Rouyer, former mayor of Cognac, received the "Brevet Royal" in 1701 and was ennobled by Louis XIV. The angel, represented as a cherub, became their emblem. The economic crisis hit them in the 1970s, and in 1992 they joined forces with Michel Coste of the Compagnie Commerciale de Guyenne. Although they recovered in the 1990s, the sudden death of Michel Rouyer/Guillet in 1999 was a major blow. Today, their limited production is mainly focused on the Asian market.
