The Cognac brand Chabanneau was founded in 1830 by Pierre Chabanneau, a former cellar master at the Grand Hôtel in Paris, in partnership with a Dutch merchant. The company thrived thanks to its exports to East Asia, particularly the Dutch East Indies. However, after World War II and Indonesia's independence in 1954, the company faced economic difficulties. It was eventually acquired by the Camus house, which continued to use "Chabanneau" as a secondary brand.
Regarding the Chabanneau VSOP Cognac bottle, several elements suggest that it dates back to the 1930s/1940s. Its seal, characteristic of that period, along with the specific shape of the bottle, are key indicators. A notable detail is its concave bottom, a typical feature of bottles from that era, with a visible glass ball seen in the photos. These elements confirm its age and authenticity as a pre-war Cognac.
